The Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) seeks an accomplished continuous improvement and systems-focused leader to join the OSPI team as a Charter School Program Grant Coordinator. This critical and innovative part-time (75%) position is based in Olympia, Washington. Position Overview
This position acts as the Grant Coordinator for Washington State's U.S. Department of Education's Charter School Program (CSP) Grant, managing the grant program's day-to-day operations. The $4 Million Grant supports the planning of implementing new charter schools in Washington State.

 

Role
The CSP Grant Coordinator provides reliable and professionally sound guidance at an advanced level to all charter school subgrantees and potential subgrantees. This position serves as a lead in the oversight of subgrantees, reporting to the CSP Project Director. This position also requires the routine interpretation and communication of current and often complex federal regulatory requirements, in order to ensure that the agency and its partners remain in compliance with these regulations. This position is critical in the state's response to the U.S. Department of Education's CSP Program monitoring process.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • This position plays a leadership role in the overall effort of the state to develop a high-quality charter public school sector.
  • Maintain current monitoring activities and develop additional oversight policies and procedures to see subgrantees through full grant cycle.
  • Work in collaboration with charter school authorizers and participate in the New School Application review process with each authorizer as high quality charter schools become eligible to access grant funds.
  • Work in close coordination with the OSPI program offices, including OSPI staff assisting the CSP program.
  • Provide technical assistance to CSP subgrant awardees to ensure compliance with CSP grant regulations.
  • Lead the CSP grant monitoring efforts including assisting with data collection.
  • Disseminate best and emerging best practices of charter schools in Washington that have received CSP grant funding.
  • Lead the development of annual CSP reports and evaluations of CSP subgrant awardees.
  • Coordinate pre-opening professional development and technical assistance opportunities for newly authorized charter schools.
  • Manage contract for third-party content development regarding charter school board governance.

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience working in the K-12 education system.
  • Bachelor's degree majoring in education, social service or related field.
  • Familiarity with and the interest in charter schools and the charter sector.
  • Experience managing or implementing public grants.
  • Experience presenting to groups ranging from 10 to 300 members.
  • Experience with computer software applications including spreadsheets and database management and statistical analysis.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both formal and informal settings.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical issues.

Compensation
The annual compensation for this part-time (75%) position is $50,000-$56,000 per year and depends upon experience, educational background and qualifications. Washington State offers a generous benefit package including health, dental, and life insurance, retirement and an optional deferred compensation program. This position serves at the pleasure of the Superintendent, and is Civil Service Exempt. This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
