Job Title: Child Protective Services Worker Trainee (W)
Salary: $2,311.00 - $4,276.00 Monthly
$27,732.00 - $51,312.00 Annually

Employee performs in a training capacity for approximately one year learning the techniques of social casework in the area of Child Protective Services. Work is characterized by cases involving abuse/neglect/exploitation of children. The nature of the situations requires judgment to deal with problems that are potentially dangerous to the client and the worker. Work requires the use of personal automobile for extensive travel. May be subject to being on-call during non-business hours and must be available or be accessible by telephone. Requires extensive training to be fully accountable for a high volume of demanding and time-restricted cases.

If you apply online, you do not have to take a copy of the application to the test center. DO NOT APPLY UNLESS YOU CAN TEST WITHIN 30 DAYS. Positive identification required. There is a 90 day re-test waiting period. Caution: Any time you re-take the same test your new score, whether higher or lower, will automatically replace any previous test scores.

The same written exam is used for:
    Adult Protective Services Worker Trainee AND Child Protective Services Worker Trainee.

If, within the last 6 months, you took this test, you do not have to re-test. If you choose not to re-test, you should contact us by letter so that your test score can be applied to the other title. (See test exemption information below.) You MUST apply for each title separately.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your application will not be accepted if you do not meet stated minimum requirements.

Training:
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science, Interpersonal Communications, Human Services, Education, Special Education, Elementary Education, or Secondary Education from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.
OR Current West Virginia Social Work License.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Eligible for Temporary Social Worker License OR Licensed as a Social Worker, Graduate Social Worker, or Certified Social Worker by the West Virginia Board of Social Work Examiners.
YOU MUST PROVIDE VERIFICATION FROM THE WV BOARD OF SOCIAL WORK EXAMINERS THAT YOU ARE LICENSED OR ELIGIBLE FOR A TEMPORARY LICENSE AS STATED BELOW. Instructions and eligibility information are available at the BOARD WEB SITE (www.wvsocialworkboard.org.) Verification of eligibility for Temporary License MUST include "Eligibility Stamp". You may test; however, your application WILL REMAIN INACTIVE pending board verification.  SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
IMPORTANT TEST EXEMPTION NOTE: Applicants with a Bachelor's (BSW) or Master's (MSW) in Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited social work program, or a current (non-Temporary) WV Social Work License are not required to take the written examination. These applicants receive automatic preference in eligible referral. Applicants with Temporary License or a "Temporary License Eligibility Approval Stamp" must test.
