Job Title: Patrol Worker - Temporary

Under supervision, to perform work involving maintenance and repair of highways, roads, bridges, and right-of-ways; and to perform other duties as required.

 Example of Duties:
 1.         Patrols highways and roads; and removes debris and obstructions.

    2.         Inspects highways and roads for defects and for failures to pavement, guardrail fencing, signing, shoulders, culverts, catch basins, erosion of right of ways, etc.

    3.         Performs vegetation maintenance work which may include: brush cutting, mowing, tree removal and trimming, and spraying.

    4.         Erects and repairs bridge railings, guardrails, fencing, markers, and crash barrels.

    5.         Operates equipment for snow removal, sanding, and salting under adverse weather conditions.

    6.         Repairs and patches roadways.

    7.         Inspects daily assigned equipment and vehicles to ensure continued safe and efficient operation.

    8.         May be called upon at anytime to respond to emergency situations such as: snowstorms, windstorms, flooding, traffic accidents, fires.

    9.         Establishes and maintains effective working and public relations with co-workers, the public, vendors and outside agencies.

10.         Performs other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Essential Knowledge and Abilities

 

    1.         Working knowledge of the modern practices, procedures, tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of roads, highways, and right-of-ways.

    2.         Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices.

    3.         Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

    4.         Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor for extended periods under variable weather conditions.

    5.         Ability to operate a variety of trucks and equipment necessary for the maintenance and repair of roads and right-of-ways.

    6.         Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relations with co-workers, the public, vendors and outside agencies.

    7.         Ability to respond at anytime to emergency situations such as: snowstorms, windstorms, flooding, traffic accidents, and fires.

 Minimum Qualifications:
  1.         High school graduation or GED equivalent.

    2.         Work experience in maintenance and repair of roads and the operation of a variety of trucks and equipment is desirable.

    3.         Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License from the State of Wisconsin is required at time of application. 

 Supplemental Information:
Winter season hours, November 2009 - March 2010.  Regular schedule of hours will be Monday - Friday, 7:00 p.m. - 3:30 a.m. with overtime and weekend hours as needed.
