Under general direction helps plan, organize, direct, and control facility maintenance for Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital maintenance; and performs related work as assigned. EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Possible educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree. AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency/Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital Maintenance Supervisor are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and are not eligible for overtime compensation. NOTE: This class is within a bargaining unit that is subject to an “agency shop” arrangement, which mandates all regular employees either join Local 721 of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and pay dues as a member, or pay either a “service fee” to Local 721 or direct that an amount equivalent to the “service fee” be distributed to a qualified charitable organization. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future regular, temporary, fixed-term, intermittent and extra-help vacancies for this position within Health Care Agency. Examples Of Duties:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: - Helps plan, organize, and direct all phases of the maintenance function.
- Helps formulate and direct the implementation of maintenance policies.
- Assists in the preparation and administration of the program budget.
- Assists in interviews, hires, supervision and evaluation of personnel; helps develop training programs for assigned personnel.
- Helps determine the most economic use of allocated resources.
- Prepares or directs the preparation of records, correspondence and research reports as required.

Typical Qualifications:

These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list. EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE Extensive experience in hospital maintenance which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge and abilities. The required knowledge and abilities also can be obtained by five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance of hospitals, two (2) years of which should include the supervision of employees. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT Possession of a valid California driver license. DESIREABLE/PREFERRED Completion of a formal program in supervision is highly desirable. Experience with budgetary estimates and control; planning and coordinating work with management and trade staff; and preparation of correspondence.
