Job Title: Mental Health Nurse I/II
Salary: $25.02 - $37.21 Hourly
$2,001.60 - $2,976.80 Biweekly
$4,336.80 - $6,449.73 Monthly
$52,041.60 - $77,396.80 Annually

Under general direction of a Program Supervisor or a Mental Health Nurse III, this position initiates, coordinates and performs a wide variety of professional activities in the delivery of direct and indirect mental health services to patients and to the community. Duties are performed in a variety of settings which, depending on assignment, may include inpatient or outpatient facilities or field work in patient homes.

APPROXIMATE SALARY:
Mental Health Nurse I: $25.02 - $35.47 per hour
Mental Health Nurse II: $26.26 - $37.21 per hour

EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Possible educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree.

BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Possible Bilingual incentive depending on the applicable MOA and the needs of the department.

AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency/Ventura County Medical Center-IPU & Behavioral Health

Mental Health Nurses are represented by the California Nurses Association and are eligible for overtime compensation. 

NOTE: These classes are within a bargaining unit that is subject to an “agency shop” arrangement, which mandates all regular employees either join the California Nurses Association (CNA) and pay dues as a member, or pay either a “service fee” to CNA or direct that an amount equivalent to the “service fee” be distributed to a qualified charitable organization.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future regular, temporary, intermittent and fixed-term vacancies for this position within the Health Care Agency.

 Examples Of Duties:
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

·        Provides individual counseling, leads or co-leads group counseling, and conducts family conferences.

·        Administers medications and monitors use and side effects.

·        Provides functional clinical supervision to student nurses and other disciplines.

·        Maintains all necessary records and patient charts; collects data for research and evaluation.

·        Identifies community agencies and resources that can assist patients; serves as a liaison on patient's behalf.

·        Provides crisis intervention including evaluation, counseling, and consultation with law enforcement agencies. May be designated to escort patients for involuntary admission under Section 5150 of the Welfare and Institutions Code; explains and enforces legal rights.

·        Participates in development or amendment of program policies and procedures.

·        Coordinates various tasks relative to the delivery of service assigned program.

 Typical Qualifications:
These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
Mental Health Nurse I:
Requires at least one year of experience in a mental health setting as a Registered Nurse, a Licensed Psychiatric Technician, or a Mental Health Technician.

Mental Health Nurse II:
Requires at least one year of experience in a mental health setting comparable to the position of Ventura County Mental Health Nurse I.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S)
Must possess a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. Must possess a valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) Certificate prior to the first day of employment.
