Within the Health Care Agency’s Medical Center, under direction, Radiologic Technologists prepare and position patients for radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations; make exposures and process, index and file images; and perform related work as required. Some vacancies may be Per Diem Pool positions, which involve working on an as-needed basis, to supplement staffing needs. Per Diem Pool personnel may be transitioned into regular positions without re-competing as long as they meet the existing minimum qualifications and are performing satisfactorily. A new internal County application may be required to verify minimum employment standards. APPROXIMATE SALARY: Radiologic Technologist: $19.35 - $28.87 per hour Radiologic Technologist PDP I: $23.30 per hour Radiologic Technologist PDP II: $28.48 per hour Radiologic Technologist PDP III: $33.66 per hour Radiologic Technologist PDP IV: $36.25 per hour EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Possible educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree for regular positions only. BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Possible Bilingual incentive depending on the applicable MOA and the needs of the department for regular positions only. AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency/Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital. Radiologic Technologists are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation. NOTE: This class is within a bargaining unit that is subject to an “agency shop” arrangement, which mandates all regular employees either join Local 721 of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and pay dues as a member, or pay either a “service fee” to Local 721 or direct that an amount equivalent to the “service fee” be distributed to a qualified charitable organization. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future regular, temporary, fixed-term, intermittent and extra-help vacancies for this position within the Health Care Agency. Examples Of Duties:
|
Duties may include but are not limited to the following: - Prepares and positions patients for examination according to approved departmental procedure.
- Operates X-Ray machines and related equipment to obtain diagnostic radiographs.
- Operates portable and special equipment in many areas of hospital.
- Operates image processing equipment, maintains records and reports according to department policy.
- Assists in maintaining files and records.
- May utilize other imaging equipment based on certification level.
- Assists Radiologists performing fluoroscopic examinations and/or invasive procedures.
- Transports patients to and from the Radiological department when necessary.

Typical Qualifications:

These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list. EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE The following describe the qualifications for each classification in this series: Radiologic Technologist & Radiologic Technologist Per Diem Pool I: Possession of a current certification as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health. AND Graduation from an accredited school of Radiology, or related specialty area; OR Satisfactory completion of an accredited formal (one year) ultrasonic training program; OR Graduation from an accredited two-year allied health program or two years of college with emphasis on the biological sciences. Radiologic Technologist Per Diem Pool II: In addition to the above listed education and permit required for the Radiologic Technologist I, the Radiologic Technologist II requires one (1) to four (4) years of experience as a certified Radiologic Technologist. Radiologic Technologist Per Diem Pool III: In addition to the above listed education and permit required for the Radiologic Technologist I, the Radiologic Technologist III requires five (5) to nine (9) years of experience as a certified Radiologic Technologist; Radiologic Technologist Per Diem Pool IV: In addition to the above listed education and permit required for the Radiologic Technologist I, the Radiologic Technologist IV requires ten (10) or more years of experience as a certified Radiologic Technologist; OR One (1) or more years experience as an Ultrasound Technologist. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S) All levels require possession of valid CPR certification by date of hire. Those individuals hired as Radiologic Technologists must have a Radiologic Technologist Fluoroscopy permit issued by the State of California, Department of Health Services by date of hire. Mammographers must have valid certifications related to their area of specialty by date of hire. DESIRABLE/PREFERRED It is preferred that those hired as Ultrasound Technologists be certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. (ARDMS) Applicants should provide sufficient information under the Education/Work Experience portion of the application and Supplemental Questionnaire, if applicable, in order to determine eligibility.
