Under general direction of the Director of Hospital Nursing, responsible for the oversight of delivery of quality nursing care in the Surgical Services Department; management of patient care operations and supervision of personnel in their nursing care area. Clinical Nurse Managers collaborate and cooperate with House supervisors and other Clinical Nurse Managers to provide for the safety and comfort of the patients throughout the hospital.



Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) is a full-service, acute care hospital, and the hub of the county medical service system. VCMC also has a satellite location in the Santa Clara Valley, Santa Paula Hospital.  The system provides access to high quality, compassionate health care to residents throughout Ventura County.  While able to implement innovations and respond to the needs of the community, our providers ensure patient care is carefully tailored to the needs of the individual.




EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Possible educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree.

BILINGUAL INCENTIVE:
Possible Bilingual incentive depending on the applicable MOA and the needs of the department.

Clinical Nurse Manager is a Management position and is exempt from overtime.  The position is eligible for benefits at the MB4 level.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future regular, temporary, fixed-term, and extra-help vacancies for this position within Health Care Agency. There is currently 1 vacancy.

 Examples Of Duties:
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
 
  • Assumes 24-hour accountability for staffing and quality of care of the Surgical Services Departments consistent with hospital standards.
  • Develops annual nursing goals for the units, including plan of action, timetable and evaluation methodology, consistent with Nursing Department and hospital goals.
  • Recruits, hires, orients, directs, supervises, evaluates and manages a staff development program for nursing staff.
  • Maintains clear, effective communication between nursing, medical, and ancillary staff and departments.
  • Communicates and administers hospital policies and procedures and participates in development of new policies and procedures specific to nursing operations.
  • Participates in the planning of changes for the physical environments of the unit.
  • Coordinates nursing Quality Improvement monitoring system by reviewing hospital and employee notification reports, problem identification reports, and unit specific performance improvement projects.
  • Prepare quarterly status reports for the Performance Improvement Coordinating Council on various clinical focus areas.
  • Insures nursing care is coordinated with prescribed medical plan of care and maintains effective communication for collaborative planning with the medical staff.
  • Makes daily rounds to identify patient needs, assess quality of care and serves as a staff resource for resolving patient issues, and is familiar with various surgical areas.
  • Insures notification forms are investigated, completed timely, submitted to the Nurse Executive, and appropriate action initiated.
  • Participates in department and hospital committees.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 Typical Qualifications:
These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
Requires graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, a minimum of two (2) years' full-time experience in a hospital of similar size to Ventura County Medical Center, and at least two (2) years' experience in a supervisory position.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S)

Must possess and maintain a current valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California, or licensure in another state with California licensure pending.  Must also possess a current BCLS certification.


PREFERRED/DESIRABLE
5 or more years working in Surgical Services.

Such score will be considered as the final score for placement on the eligible list. Candidates successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
