Under general supervision of the department manager, performs basic and advanced respiratory care procedures and may provide supervisory duties of other therapists as directed by the department manager; and performs other related duties as required. APPROXIMATE SALARY: Respiratory Therapist I (Per Diem Pool) $25.88 per hour Respiratory Therapist II (Per Diem Pool) $28.47 per hour Respiratory Therapist III (Per Diem Pool) $31.06 per hour Respiratory Therapist IV (Per Diem Pool) $33.65 per hour AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency/Ventura County Medical Center Respiratory Therapist PDP I-IV are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation. NOTE: This class is within a bargaining unit that is subject to an “agency shop” arrangement, which mandates all regular employees either join Local 721 of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and pay dues as a member, or pay either a “service fee” to Local 721 or direct that an amount equivalent to the “service fee” be distributed to a qualified charitable organization. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future per diem pool vacancies for this position within the Health Care Agency. Typical Qualifications:

These are typical requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list. Education/Training/Experience: Respiratory Therapist PDP I – Graduate of a one-year AMA approved School of Respiratory Therapy. Respiratory Therapist PDP II – Graduate of a one-year AMA approved School of Respiratory Therapy plus one (1) year of critical care experience. Respiratory Therapist PDP III – Graduate of a one-year AMA approved School of Respiratory Therapy plus three (3) years of critical care experience. Must also possess special qualifications and certifications, such as PALS, Neonatal Resuscitation, ACLS. Applicants need to show evidence of committee participation, educational activities, new employee instruction and participation in special projects. Respiratory Therapist PDP IV – Graduate of a one-year AMA approved School of Respiratory Therapy plus three (3) years of critical care experience. Must also possess special qualifications and certifications, such as PALS, Neonatal Resuscitation, ACLS. Applicants need to show evidence of committee participation, educational activities, new employee instruction and participation in special projects. Must have experience as charge therapist (shift maintenance, manager relief) and also be a clinical specialist in Adult/Pediatric and/or Neonatal Respiratory Care. Applicants must be licensed or in process of obtaining a license issued by the State of California Board of Respiratory Care, as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP). Applicants must also be certified with and have obtained certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care. Passing the Boards is a condition of continued employment. The license numbers must be provided on the application. Copies of the license or work permit will be required at time of interview. Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license. Must be willing to work shifts and/or weekends and indicate this on the front/face page of the job application. Failure to do so will be deemed as sufficient grounds to deny you entrance into the competitive process.
