Under general direction, this position provides psychological counseling to groups and individuals and provides advice and consultation to staff members. The Psychology Department is one of the seven clinical departments of the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC), as described in Article V of the Medical Staff By-Laws. APPROXIMATE SALARY: Staff Psychologist: $1,998.88 - $2,803.84 Biweekly Senior Psychologist: $2,199.50 - $3,084.40 Biweekly BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Possible Bilingual incentive depending on the applicable MOA and the needs of the department. Regular employees in this classification may be eligible to receive Market Based Premium Pay depending on the current market wages. AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency/Behavioral Health Staff and/or Senior Psychologists are represented by the Service Employees Internatonal Union (SEIU) and are not eligible for overtime compensation. NOTE: This class is within a bargaining unit that is subject to an “agency shop” arrangement, which mandates all regular employees either join Local 721 of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and pay dues as a member, or pay either a “service fee” to Local 721 or direct that an amount equivalent to the “service fee” be distributed to a qualified charitable organization. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future regular, temporary, fixed-term, intermittent and extra-help vacancies for this position within Health Care Agency . Examples Of Duties:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: - Counsels individuals and groups as a member of an out-patient
- day treatment or in-patient team
- evaluates patient needs
- plans and develops treatment programs
- serves as consultant to other team members
- trains and advises social workers, nurses, probation officers and teachers on psychological problems and behavior therapy
- selects, administers and evaluates psychological tests
- provides testing advice and consultation
- participates in team meetings
- maintains case records; prepares reports
- provides advice and consultation for community groups and other agencies

Typical Qualifications:
|
These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list. EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE Staff Psychologist: Possession of a Ph.D or Psy.D degree with specialization in clinical, child clinical, counseling, or education psychology, from a American Psychological Association (APA)-approved college or university program that was approved on the date the degree was granted AND Completion of an APA-approved internship in clinical psychology equivalent to one full year of supervised training of at least 1800 hours. The internship must be in addition to practical work associated with specific academic courses. Note: In lieu of the completion of an APA approved program, membership in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology will suffice. Senior Psychologist: The Ph.D or Psy.D, as described above, AND Completion of an APA-approved internship, indicated above as required for the Staff Psychologist AND Two (2) years of postdoctoral, post-internship experience involving assessment and treatment and either training, research, consultation or program planning in mental health services, law enforcement or corrections AND A valid License as a Clinical Psychologist issued by the State of California or eligibility to take the State Board examination. Note: In lieu of the completion of an APA approved program, membership in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology will suffice. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S) Medical Staff Privileges Required for Both Classifications Because the Psychology Department is one of VCMC’s seven clinical departments (as described in Article V of the Medical Staff By-Laws), Psychologists hired by the Health Care Agency must be eligible for Medical Staff Privileges at the Medical Center. This eligibility requires: “a California License as a Psychologist...and…graduation from a graduate program that was approved by the APA on the date the degree was granted, or be a member in good standing of the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, or the equivalent." Eligibility for Medical Staff Privileges is a condition of employment and will be determined by the Medical Staff Committee prior to the date of hire.
