Under direction of the Pathologist and Laboratory Manager, performs a variety of standardized chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological tests for examination, obtaining data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases; orients new employees; and, performs other related duties as required. APPROXIMATE SALARY Clinical Laboratory Scientist I: $20.75 - 29.02 per hour Clinical Laboratory Scientist II: $24.49 - 34.39 per hour Clinical Laboratory Scientist III: $26.01 - 36.48 per hour Clinical Laboratory Scientist Perdiem Pool I: $28.00 per hour Clinical Laboratory Scientist Perdiem Pool II: $32.30 per hour Clinical Laboratory Scientist Perdiem Pool III: $35.30 per hour Clinical Laboratory Scientist Perdiem Pool IV: $38.83 per hour Regular employees in this classification may be eligible to receive Market Based Premium Pay depending on the current market wages. EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Possible educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of an Associate, Bachelors, or Masters degree for regular positions only. BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Possible bilingual incentive, depending upon the applicable MOA and the needs of the department for regular positions only. AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency/Ventura County Medical Center & Santa Paula Hospital Clinical Laboratory Scientists - Regular and Per Diem Pool are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation. NOTE: This class is within a bargaining unit that is subject to an “agency shop” arrangement, which mandates all regular employees either join Local 721 of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and pay dues as a member, or pay either a “service fee” to Local 721 or direct that an amount equivalent to the “service fee” be distributed to a qualified charitable organization. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future regular, temporary, fixed-term, intermittent and extra-help vacancies for this position within Health Care Agency . Examples Of Duties:
|
Duties may include but are not limited to the following: - Performs a variety of tests in any or all of the fields of medical technology.
- Completion of technical testing/reporting in serology, blood bank, microbiology, hematology, chemistry, special chemistry and urinalysis.
- Performs venipuncture as required.
- Assists in maintaining the laboratory and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
- Maintains basic records and operates the numerous pieces of electronic equipment.
- Performs related work as assigned.

Typical Qualifications:
|
These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list. EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE All levels require possession of a valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Chemistry Scientist, Clinical Microbiologist, Clinical Immunohematologist Scientist, or Clinical Hematologist Scientist license issued by the State of California Department of Health Services. AND Clinical Laboratory Scientist I & CLS PDP II No experience required Clinical Laboratory Scientist II & CLS PDP II One (1) year of recent experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Clinical Laboratory Scientist III & CLS PDP III Four (4) years of recent diverse clinical technical laboratory analysis experience under a qualified director. CLS PDP IV Five (5) years of recent diverse clinical laboratory technical analysis experience under a qualified director.
