Job Title: Temporary - Water Resources Education Center - Educator - Internship
Closing Date/Time: Continuous

The City of Vancouver Water Resources Education Center is seeking Educator Interns to work at the Water Center up to 20 hours per week for three months. The duration of the position may be extended up to one year. The Water Resources Education Center is open to the public Monday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Each Educator Intern will be required to work every other Saturday. The Educator Intern will also be required to work two mornings Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Water Center is located at 4600 SE Columbia Way.

 Functions:

The ideal candidate for this position will perform the following functions:

  • Lead school and group presentations with hands-on activities
  • Demonstrate water-related activities;
     
  • Greet visitors, give tours of the Water Center, present background, start videos in the theater
  • Set up activities in the classroom, lab and other areas;
  • Maintain the aquaria, 350-gallon aquarium in the lab, 55-gallon aquarium in the Atrium and all other aquaria at the Water Center;
  • Clean and organize lab equipment;
  • Project and exhibit research and development;
  • Assist staff and volunteers in planning and carrying out special events such as the Sturgeon Festival and Splash;
  • Work with volunteers in various capacities;
  • Cover the reception area as needed, including answering phones and answering visitor questions;
  • Work as part of the Water Center team
  • Carry out other tasks as needed.

 Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position should have:

  • Knowledge or interest in science, for example biology, chemistry or geology;
  • Knowledge or interest in education.

The ability to:

  • Display a friendly and helpful attitude;
  • Enjoy working with people of all ages;
  • Be a self-starter;
  • Work on numerous projects simultaneously;
  • Work as a part of a team;
  • Be organized and work independently;
  • Be flexible;
  • Work a flexible schedule.
