 Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
Successful candidates will possess a four-year degree from a recognized college or university; graduate degrees are a distinct plus with progressively responsible and diversified executive management experience.

The Metro CEO will be:

  •  Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills:
    The Metro CEO reports to a six member Board of Directors and directly supervises a staff of seven directors, overseeing a 63 employee agency. The Metro CEO will determine the structure and staffing according to the demands of Valley Metro as the system grows and develops. He or she will be a proven leader in the world of transit, transportation or other compatible, equally complex, regulated industries.

    The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • The presence and stature to win immediate respect from stakeholders at multiple levels within the community
  • The strong reputation to bring further national prestige to Valley Metro
  • Proven ability to work with elected officials at federal, state and local levels with excellent knowledge of regulatory, economics, and funding issues
  • Proven knowledge of FTA, or similar government funding agencies and excellent track record for congressional relationship building
  • Extensive operating experience in a transit, transportation, or other multi facility, multi system complex setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Powerful written and oral presentation skills
  • Willingness to work hands-on as needed
  • Flexibility and a sense of humor
  • Strategic planning and implementation skills
  • Experience managing complex operations combining operation and construction activity
  • Proven track record for successful management of complex operating and capital budgets
  • Proven ability to recruit, train, and motivate high energy, talented staff
  • Proven track record for building succession in a highly diverse organization
  • Strong negotiation and labor management skills
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and public at all levels
  • Responsible and diversified executive management experience
  • Track record for creating safe and reliable systems and operations
  • Transportation experience (especially running a developing and under construction, multi-city regional transit system) is highly desirable, but not required
  • Collaboration among multiple peer agencies
