Performs advanced-level lab professional duties on a day-to-day basis to achieve short- and long-term goals of the Crime Lab. POSITIONS MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME AFTER A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS IS RECEIVED |

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
|
| 1. Performs advanced sophisticated collection, analysis and evaluation of evidence utilizing standardized and industry acceptable techniques 2. Reports results to agencies 3. Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment and quality control procedures 4. Maintains sufficient inventory of supplies needed for workload in a timely manner 5. Conducts education instruction on lab procedures used by the County 6. May participate in independent research 7. May provide technical assistance to law enforcement agencies 8. May recommend changes to lab procedures. 9. Prepares written reports and prepared to testify at court proceedings 10. Prepares monthly or special reports of activities 11. Trains or ensures training of work group in laboratory procedures 12. Performs other related duties involved in the operation of the Medical Examiner's Office as assigned or required |

Minimum Requirements:
|
To apply, must have a Master's degree in a life science or forensic science + five (5) full-time years of lab experience, including direct experience as a court-qualified expert in forensic science, the most recent two (2) full-time years of which must be in a particular specialty area. OR To apply, must have a Bachelor's degree in a life science or forensic science with seven (7) full-time years of lab experience, including direct experience as a court-qualified expert in forensic science, the most recent two (2) full-time years of which must be in a particular specialty area. To apply, must be able to demonstrate successful completion of an externally administered proficiency test taken during twelve months prior to application. NOTE: YOU MUST FILL OUT THE WORK HISTORY and EDUCATION SECTIONS OF APPLICATION TO SHOW YOU HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION AS REQUIRED BY HIRING DEPARTMENT OR BE DISQUALIFIED. Also, must pass a competency examination given by the supervisor before hiring. Elected membership in learned scientific societies in the particular area of expertise is desirable. Must have advanced-level of knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of field of specialty. May require successful completion of annual externally administered proficiency testing. Must maintain knowledge of up-to-date technology and practices in the field of specialty. Ability to use PC and applicable software. Must have advanced-level oral and written/presentation and communication skills. Ability to make independent judgment. Must have advanced skills in laboratory protocols/procedures, techniques and knowledge of evidence handling and testing procedures. |

Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements:

| While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, walk, climb, grasp, stoop, lift, push and pull. Occasional lifting of heavy laboratory equipment is required. The hazards associated with this position may include handling physical evidence from evaluating loaded firearms and explosives, to dealing with dangerous chemicals and blood borne pathogens. |
