Job Title: FLU SURVEILLANCE SPECIALIST-EPI

  • Under the direction of the Epidemiology Division Manager, serves as the Epidemiology Flu Team project leader. 
  • Plans and coordinates with the Public Health Preparedness team to ensure public health readiness for pandemic flu.
  • Collaborates with the Epidemiology Flu Team to further develop the flu surveillance plan for Tarrant County, establishes effective relationships with community reporting sources and implements and evaluates influenza surveillance activities.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborates with the Public Health Preparedness Team to carry out the Tarrant County Public Health Influenza Surveillance Plan.
  2. Facilitates regular communication with the flu reporting sources.
  3. Provides technical assistance to flu reporting sources.
  4. Monitors syndromic surveillance systems and correlates with flu surveillance data.
  5. Assists with evaluation of flu surveillance activity reporting sources to determine the usefulness and practicability of each source.
  6. Prepares routine and special reports to track and trend local incidence of influenza and responds to influenza data requests.
  7. Conducts quality assurance reviews of influenza surveillance activities.
  8. Performs other duties for Tarrant County Public Health as assigned.

 Minimum Requirements:
To apply, must have a Bachelor’s degree + two (2) full-time years of work experience in epidemiology, public health preparedness or other health-related fields.
OR
To apply,   must have Master’s degree in Public Health or related field.

Previous experience in health-related field with knowledge of disease investigation protocols, reporting procedures, and data analysis desirable. 

Strong analytical and communication skills required. 

Proficiency in M.S. Office and data management software. 

 Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, lift, push and pull.
