Tacoma Power's Transmission & Distribution section is seeking to fill several Journey Level Line Worker positions.  Journey Level Line Workers perform skilled journey-level work involving the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems.  A high degree of skill and safety consciousness is required.   The work is dangerous and frequently performed on energized high voltage lines and/or under unfavorable weather conditions.  Work is normally performed under supervision; however, on occasion, employees may work on special assignments without supervision and may supervise skilled and unskilled workers of other classifications.  Position requires heavy lifting, climbing and working from poles and ladders, climbing stairs, fast reflexes, good eyesight, bending, stretching and standing.

 Qualifications:
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Hold a current journey-level line electrician card
      LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
      Valid Washington State Commercial Driver's License, Class A must be obtained prior to completion of probation with maintained thereafter. Valid first aid, CPR, and flagging cards. Cards must be obtained prior to completion of probationary period with maintained thereafter.
    •  Selection Process & Supplemental Information:
      EXAMINATION PROCESS
      Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be sent an Experience and Training test which will be scored for placement on an eligible list.  Each applicant's test will be evaluated on the basis of information provided; the evaluation committee will not have access to the application form.  It is the responsibility of the applicant to give accurate and honest responses. 

      HIRING REQUIREMENTS
      Individuals given a conditional offer of employment must also pass a pre-employment medical examination that will include a drug screening and background check.  This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between the City of Tacoma and IBEW Local 483.  An employee in this position will be required to join the union within 30 days of hire.  New employees must successfully complete a nine-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification.
