|
The Arrowhead Juvenile Center seeks to provide professional and para-professional counseling services for youth, who for the protection of the community or themselves must be temporarily detained. The atmosphere created is one in which dignity, self-worth and responsibility of each individual is maintained or developed. This is accomplished through a varied and active program of education, recreation, one-to-one counseling and interaction. The Arrowhead Juvenile Center is a detention facility, which requires constant supervision and care for the residents’ needs, both physical, psychological and emotional. |

Distinguishing Features of Work:
|
The counselor position consists of a team relationship between one male and one female counselor on shifts running from 7-3, 3-11 and 11-7. During shifts, counselors are in direct contact with residents and are responsible for any situation arising during their shift. The main task of this job is to maintain a positive culture in the resident group to provide counseling services to residents and to care for their needs, psychologically, physically, and emotionally, in an open, and positive manner. Counselors must take affirmative action when residents are not cooperating with the program and must set up individual behavior contracts to reenter the resident in the group positively and as soon as possible. Counselors must know the policy and philosophy of the Juvenile Center and implement them accurately. Counselors are urged to blend their own personalities and philosophies into the Center’s philosophies and goals to achieve the desired result of helping delinquent adolescents. |

Selection Process:

Minimum Qualifications: (Pass/Fail) Graduation from a standard high school or its equivalent and two years of experience in direct client service work in a human services field (2080 hours = 1 year). OR, Graduation from a standard high school or its equivalent; one year of experience (2080 = 1 year) in direct client service work in a human services field; and, at least 90 quarter credits, 24 of which must be in psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, criminology, or corrections. NOTE: Possession of a BA/BS degree in behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university will be accepted in lieu of work experience. Experience & Training Rating 100% Points will be awarded for job-related experience and education exceeding the minimum qualifications. Only experience occurring during the ten most recent years will be used in determining this rating. Experience beyond ten years may be included on the application for purposes of meeting minimum qualifications or informing the hiring authority of your complete employment history.
