Professional public health nursing.

 Distinguishing Features of Work:
An employee in this class is responsible for the provision of public health nursing services to populations within St. Louis County for the purpose of promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention of disease and disability. Sites of service delivery include the home, school, office, clinic, and community facilities. General duties and responsibilities include the following: group and individual health counseling and education; school health nursing services; clinic coordination and service delivery; nursing assessment services and recommendations for plan of care; provision of home health care and delegation of services to LPNs and ancillary personnel; recommends and participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of public health nursing programs; provision consultation for other community agency personnel in the area of health and nursing services. The Public Health Nurse practices within the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines. The work is performed under the supervision of a Public Health Nursing Supervisor.

 Work Environment:

CONSTANT: Lift and carry up to 10 pounds; hear within 5 feet; bend neck; move about; reach; talk/speak; customer/public contact; and clients with behavioral challenges. FREQUENT: Near, midrange and far vision; depth perception; field of vision; visual accommodation; color vision; hear up to 20 feet; climb stairs; feel; grasp/handle; rotate neck; sit; stand; stoop/bend; walk; turn wrists; work alone or with others; work inside; work outside and driving. OCCASIONAL: Lift up to 20 pounds; use fingers; kneel; reach above shoulder; squat; twist at waist; blood-borne pathogens; and slippery surfaces.

 Selection Process:

Minimum qualifications (pass/fail)
Graduation from an accredited baccalaureate degree nursing program with public health nursing preparation. Current licensure or eligibility for certification as a public health nurse in Minnesota. Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Experience & Training 100%
Points will be awarded for job-related experience and education exceeding the minimum qualifications. Only experience occurring during the ten most recent years will be used in determining this rating. Experience beyond ten years may be included on the application for purposes of meeting minimum qualifications or informing the hiring authority of your complete employment history.
