Job Title: Epidemiology Specialist

St. Louis County Government has a contract with the State of Missouri to provide for regional public health planning and preparedness under the Department of Health. Positions funded by this program are responsible for ongoing development and monitoring of the program, researching and disseminating information to health professionals and the general public, and conducting communicable disease surveillance and investigations. This position is grant funded. The starting salary for this position will be between $33,280 - $39,939 per year depending on experience and qualifications.

 Examples of Duties:
  • Participate in and provide epidemiologic support for communicable disease investigations, including completing investigation forms, developing line listings, conducting field interviews and preparing reports that may include summary charts, graphs and relevant statistics.
  • Conduct active and passive surveillance activities designed to detect possible bioterrorism events and communicable disease trends.  These activities will include adding additional schools to the school surveillance system and maintaining ongoing emergency room surveillance.
  • Provide epidemiologic support to the division by analyzing and reporting on active and passive surveillance data.  These analyses will include but not be limited to quarterly summaries of communicable disease cases reported among residents of the St. Louis region, weekly reports summarizing communicable disease case reports among St. Louis County residents and quality assurance reports on MOHSIS data.  Other reports will be assigned based on current trends and outbreaks.
  • Perform such additional duties as may properly be required of a position in this job class.

 

 

 Minimum Qualifications:
A Master's Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Care Administration, or a related field and at least one year of professional experience in public health, epidemiology, emergency management or a related area; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Strong computer and analytical skills are required.

 Additional Information:
Missouri Health Surveillance Information System (MOHSIS) and Emergency Response Data Collection System (ERDCS) training within 3 months of employment.
