Positions in this job classification are responsible for performing paraprofessional nursing duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Corrections LPNs work in the St. Louis County Justice Services Center located in Clayton. The responsibilities of this position include performing nursing duties under the supervision of a RN Supervisor or RN. These positions typically do not require LPNs to provide patient personal care assistance. The normal starting salary is $13.98 - $15.00 per hour plus 10% shift differential for evenings. The starting salary will be based on experience as well as other organizational factors. Part time employees' scheduled hour may include every other weekend and alternate holidays. Full time employees are required to work at least half of all paid holidays. We do not offer straight day shifts. 

 Examples of Duties:

  • Prepares and refills medication carts to administer prescribed medication to residents inside the housing units.

     
  • Verifies identity of resident receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage and time of administration on specified forms or records.

     
  • Presents medication to resident and observes ingestion or administers medications using specified procedures.

     
  • Takes vital signs or observes resident to detect response to specified types of medication and prepares reports or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions.

     
  • Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.

     
  • Records and restocks medication inventories.

     
  • Provides education and teaching to promote resident wellness.

     
  • Performs additional duties in accordance with the parameters of a Licensed Practical Nurse.

 Minimum Qualifications:
Requires completion of a one year training program at an accredited school for Practical Nurses with at least two years related work experience.

 Additional Information:
Requires licensure as a Practical Nurse by the State of Missouri.
