PHYSICAL AGILITY - Upon receiving a passing score on the written examination, the applicant will be required to complete a series of physical tests to continue in the selection process. The applicant must achieve a score of 384 or above to pass the Physical Agility portion of the selection process.

The following information describes the tests, which are part of the physical agility portion of the screening process:
99 Yard Obstacle Course - This test simulates a short distance foot pursuit such as might occur in the parking lot of a shopping center. The test requires you to make frequent changes in direction while running as fast as possible.

Body Drag - This test simulates dragging someone who is physically incapacitated. The test requires that you lift and drag a 165 pound dummy that is face up on the floor. The dummy must be dragged 32 feet.

Fence Climbs - Two tests of your ability to climb over fences will be administered. Both fences are 6 feet high. One fence is solid wood and the other is chain link. These are the two most common fences encountered by deputy sheriffs. For each test you are to run up to the fence, scale the fence, and continue running to the finish line.

500 Yard Run - This test simulates a long distance foot pursuit and requires you to run 500 yards.

Trigger Pull - This tests your ability to operate and fire a .40 Cal semiautomatic pistol issued by this office. This test will require that you simulate shooting the handgun by successfully squeezing the trigger five times with your weak hand within five seconds. This test will be done while holding the weapon inside a ring 2½” in diameter without touching the sides. We will give you three opportunities to successfully complete this test. This test also requires that you successfully pull the slide of the weapon back to the locked position. This test will be done holding the weapons grip with the strong hand and pulling the slide back with the weak hand. Do not bring any weapons to this examination.

Please wear appropriate attire (I.E., PTs, sweats, workout clothes, etc.) and shoes. There is a facility at the testing site to change clothes should you need to do so.
