District Information

The District serves students in the cities of Santa Monica and Malibu. Approximately 11,900 students are enrolled in pre-kindergarten through adult education. The city of Santa Monica spans 8.3 square miles and has a population of approximately 86,000. The city of Malibu stretches 15 square miles and is home to over 27,000.

To be considered for an employment opportunity with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, it is necessary for you to complete an official District Application. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of an application.

1.     Read the experience requirements in the employment bulletin before completing the “Work Experience” section.

2.     Begin with your most recent job.

3.     Account for all employment and any periods of unemployment in the last 10 years. Include self-employment, military service, and volunteer work related to the job for which your are applying. Include additional work experience more than 10 years ago if you feel it will help you qualify for the job you are seeking.

4.     Attach additional sheets if you need more space.

Selection Procedures

In order to be considered for employment in the classified service at the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, applicants must go through an examination process and have their names placed on an Eligibility List. The examination process may consist of any one or more of the following: Training and Experience Evaluation, a Written Test, a Performance Test, a Technical Oral Interview and/or a Qualifications Appraisal Interview.
