Job Title: Supervisor, Emergency Management

Work involves developing and maintaining emergency preparedness program plans, responding to emergency situations associated with natural events or environmental spills that affect public safety, planning and implementing training programs, maintaining contact with government officials and related organizations, coordinating planning activities and preparing annual budgets. This position assists in the development, management and implementation of the county storm water program.

 Qualifications and Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, education or related field.
  • Two years experience in a management  or supervisory position involving management of projects, contractors or consultants.
  • Be on call and travel as needed.
  • Work nonstandard hours and more than 40 hours per week when emergencies occur.
  • Work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions.
  • Relocate to Shelby County within one year of the date of employment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Upon notice from county management, will be required to secure Advanced Level Emergency Management Certification in accordance with the Alabama Association of Emergency Managers Professional Certification Program within one year of the notice.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Master's degree in business, public administration or related field preferred.
  • Two years experience in Emergency Management.
  • Direct experience conducting training and educational programs.
  • Direct experience involving the procuring, maintaining and transporting of materials and/or personnel (logistics) preferred.

 Physical Demands & Work Environment:
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather extremes and chemical substances.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is light in nature and consists of moderate amounts of standing, lifting, carrying, bending and walking.  Must be able to walk  various terrains and topography.  Must be able to operate a county motor vehicle.

No written or performance examination will be required for this position. Applicants are screened and certified based on an evaluation of their education, training, experience and other requirements as outlined in this Position Announcement and denoted on their Job Application and responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire.
