Job Title: Deputy Coroner - Trainee
Closing Date/Time: Continuous
Salary: $11.96 Hourly
$956.80 Biweekly
$24,876.80 Annually

Location: Countywide, Shelby County, Alabama
 

 
 
Part-time work investigating death scenes, photography, specimen collection, documentation, assisting with the removal of deceased, working with outside agencies and next of kin notifications. This position is required to be on the night and weekend on-call rotation. On the job training is provided by the Coroner or the Senior Deputy Coroner.

 Qualifications and Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with computers.
  • Statues require that all Deputy Coroner's be at least 25 years of age and a resident of Shelby County, Alabama for at least one year prior to hire.
  • Medical background (EMT or Nursing) or education that includes successful completion of Human Anatomy and Physiology courses.
  • PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Criminal Justice background
  • Medical or Legal Death Investigator background.
  •  Physical Demands & Work Environment:
    WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an indoor office environment and outdoors in extreme weather conditions, unsanitary and biohazard conditions and in stressful and sometimes hostile conditions.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Work is medium to heavy in nature and consists of walking, bending, lifting, carrying and driving. Required to assist with lifting human remains.
