System Maintenance Period:
Please note that NEOGOV & the Shelby County Online Application Form be unavailable on March 6th from 2 am – 4:30 am Central Standard Time (CST) while the 2010 Winter Enhancement is completed.  A maintenance page will be displayed during this time indicating that the system is undergoing maintenance and will be available again after 4:30 a.m. CST.

Welcome to the Shelby County Job Postings Page. Shelby County invites qualified applicants to apply online for posted positions. A position posting does not always signify that a vacancy exists.

Unless otherwise denoted, current postings are open for receipt of applications from the general public and current Shelby County employees. You can now apply online by clicking on the Position Title you are interested in and clicking on the "Apply" link! If this is the first time you are applying using our online job application, you will need to create an account and select a User Name and Password. After your account is established, you can build an online application by clicking on the "Build Job Application" link. The online application can be used to apply for more than one job posting.  You can use your saved online application to apply for future job postings or to update your existing information as long as you remember your User Name and Password.  Shelby County cannot access User Names or Passwords, so if you forget either of these you will need to create a new account and complete a new application to apply for future jobs or update your information.

Online applications are stored on a secure site. Only authorized employees and hiring authorities have access to the information submitted.

Applicants should ensure that completed applications are submitted online prior to the published closing date. Applications will not be accepted after the published closing date. You can update or edit your application as often as necessary, but you can only apply for a specific job once in a two (2) year period.

Positions which indicate a "CONTINUOUS" filing deadline or closing date will remain open until the Shelby County Department of Personnel Services determines posting requirements are met and there are sufficient qualified applications on file. Positions are subject to change or close without notice.

Vacancies are filled from a list of eligible applicants that have applied for a specific opening. Upon receipt of an authorized requisition from an appointing authority, the Personnel Services Department refers a list of qualified applicants from the appropriate eligibility register. Unless otherwise disqualified, applications are maintained for two years from the date of application.

If you are interested in a position that is not currently posted, you can CLICK HERE to go to our Job Descriptions Web Page.  Locate the class title for the position you are interested in and click on the link "Email me when jobs like this become available" to complete a Job Interest Card.  For each Job Interest Card you complete, you will receive email notifications for the next 12 months should that position post for acceptance of applications.

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES FOR COMPLETING YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION
  • Your application is our first impression of you as a candidate for employment. It is important to check for misspelled words and typographical errors prior to submitting your application.
  • Please complete your application in Sentence Case capitalizing where necessary and not all upper or lower case.
  • Be thorough. Your application is the primary tool used to evaluate your job qualifications.  You must complete all sections of the online application, including education and work experience.
  • Resumes can be attached, but will not replace the information that is required on the online application.

Shelby County Commission will no longer accept paper applications for promotional or employment opportunities.

Shelby County, Alabama is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Qualified applicants are considered for all positions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital or veteran status, disability or any other legally protected status.
