| Vocational Instructors supervise and assist in the vocational training of an assigned group of people with disabilities participating in Opportunity Center programs; instruct and closely supervise clients in predetermined tasks; evaluate clients' progress on a daily basis; prepare documentation and attend meetings to discuss clients' progress and problems; may assist in conducting time studies to determine piece rates; may transport trainees to activities and/or work sites; provide individual and group training and instruction in production work tasks and general vocational development.
Extra Help positions are limited to 1,000 hours of work in a fiscal year and do not include fringe benefits. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and depth perception. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. |

| EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES: | |
| ASSIGNMENTS MAY INCLUDE
A) Supervising a small crew of people with disabilities who perform janitorial, landscape, and/or maintenance services. B) Working with a person with a disability on a one-to-one basis to observe, coach, and document personal and social skills. Similar assessment may occur at a job site requiring observation, coaching and documentation. C) Job coaching or related responsibilities. |

| TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: | |
| Any combination of education and experience sufficient to directly demonstrate possession and application of the following:
Knowledge of: Techniques of production flow and control; recordkeeping techniques. Ability to: Supervise and train others having varying learning capabilities; adapt to ever-changing work assignments; demonstrate mechanical aptitude for operation of variety of tools and equipment; deal tactfully with trainees and others; take inventory and keep accurate records. These knowledges and abilities are typically attained the completion of course work or training dealing with persons who are mentally impaired or physically disabled. IDEAL CANDIDATE Completion of course work or training dealing with persons who are mentally impaired or physically disabled. Experience working with people with disabilities is highly desirable. |
