The County of San Diego's Psychiatric Hospital is hiring Supervising Nurses to fill immediate vacancies. In addition to the base salary (see above) Supervising Nurses assigned to the Psychiatric Hospital earn a 5% location premium, $1.25/hr for working night shift and $2.25/hr for working graveyard shift. Supervising Nurses provide professional, specialized nursing care to children, adolescents and/or adult patients in clinics and hospitals, and to perform related work. Although the immediate vacancies are at the Psychiatric Hospital, Supervising Nurses also work at Edgemoor Hospital, the County’s skilled long-term care facility. This is a second level supervisor, first level manager in the nursing series. Under general supervision, the Supervising Nurse provides direction and leadership to nursing personnel in all wards, areas and shifts to ensure an adequate standard of care and may act in the absence of the Assistant or Chief Nurses. Duties include: Plans and approves work schedules; oversees and supervises nursing activities; coordinates nursing services throughout the facility to ensure an adequate standard of care; evaluates work performance and guides and trains staff in nursing procedures in order to improve patient care and treatment; analyzes and evaluates nursing service needs and makes recommendations on how best to meet these needs; demonstrates effective techniques of care to subordinates on the nursing staff; and assists in the provision of in-service education. A current and valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license at time of application; AND, 2. Four (4) years of registered nursing experience, of which at least one (1) year of this experience must have been in a long term care, rehabilitation, geriatric and/or psychiatric nursing facility, AND, one (1) year of this experience must have been in nursing management. Notes: 1. A bachelor's degree in nursing from an U.S. accredited college or university, or certified equivalency for foreign studies may substitute for one (1) year of RN experience. A master's degree in nursing, public heatlh, hospital administration or other related fields from an U.S. accredited college or university, or certified equivalency for foreign studies may substitute for two (2) years of RN experience. 2. Highly desirable experience includes: experience in Psychiatric or Behavioral Health nursing; Joint Commission knowledge; and computer literate which includes being proficient in Microsoft Word. 3. A current CPR card is required at time of appointment, which must be maintained throughout employment. The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a 6 month employment list with a score of 100.
