JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Works with federal and state agencies to evaluate the significance of historic properties, to determine the effects of federal and state projects on historic properties, and to develop mitigation measures and alternatives to minimize adverse effects to historic properties. Prepares official agency comments and provides agency representation in the development of memoranda of agreement and programmatic agreements. Consults with federal and state agencies, local governments, professional consultants, and the general public regarding state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines associated with Section 106 and OCRM permitting. Reviews and distributes federal and state project documentation to appropriate staff members. Supervises part-time staff in project tracking, filing, and implementation of records retention schedules. Conducts training and workshops for a wide variety of audiences. MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor's degree and related professional experience. Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of the field of historic preservation, particularly federal preservation laws, regulations, and guidelines. Knowledge of American architectural history. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with the public and staff. Experience in developing and presenting preservation concepts to the public. Skill in personal relations, conflict resolution, and negotiation. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in a clear and effective manner. Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle in South Carolina.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree in historic preservation, architectural history, or a related field and at least one year of full-time professional experience in historic preservation. Experience with historic resources identification and determination of eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places. Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems and the Microsoft Office suite.
