COLLECTING CANDIDATE INFORMATION FOR POTENTIAL FUTURE INTERNSHIP OPENINGS

HOW TO APPLY: Applications and job bulletins can be obtained 24 hours a day at www.sbcountyjobs.com. In Santa Barbara, applications and job bulletins may be obtained at the Human Resources Department, 1226 Anacapa Street, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Computer access is available to complete online application. In Santa Maria, applications and job bulletins can be obtained on-line only at the Workforce Resource Center located at 1410 S. Broadway, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Applications are not accepted at this location.

NOTE: Please complete  and submit the short application form, include your resume and complete the supplemental questionnaire.

As a Student Intern with the County of Santa Barbara, you will work closely with County employees on special projects and acquire practical work experience related to your academic major and career goals.

A variety of internships in the County's 24 departments provide you with an opportunity to

  • Contribute to the County while learning about local government
     
  • Apply your skills and knowledge to hands-on problem solving
     
  • Build your resume and explore career options
     
  • Network with professionals in your field of interest
     
  • Work with an organization that values professional development, innovation, and diversity
     
You may also be eligible to receive academic credit for your internship if you make arrangements through your academic advisor or guidance counselor.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Interns are extra-help, at-will employees of the County. To become a regular employee, you must apply and compete in the same manner as other applicants for regular County jobs.

 Examples of Duties:
Specific duties for internship projects will be determined by the hiring department at the time the internship is announced.

 Employment Standards:
To be considered for a County internship, you would
  • Be enrolled in a college, university, community college, law school, or graduate school
     
  • Have completed your first year of study
     
  • Possess a grade point average of 2.5 or higher
     

 Supplemental Information:
For some internships you may be required to undergo a pre-employment medical evaluation or examination or a background check. Such employment requirements would be identified in the internship announcement.
