Great opportunity for a California Board Certified Psychiatrist to work in the beautiful central coast of California for the County of Santa Barbara in their Alcohol, Drug & Mental Health Services Department.

Currently hiring for a Board Certified
Adult and Child Psychiatrist for our Santa Maria clinic.

Ability to speak fluently in English and Spanish is highly desirable.


 

The Position:
Under direction, but with independent responsibility for professional results, provides psychiatric diagnostic and therapeutic services in a mental health clinic and/or inpatient psychiatric facility; and performs related duties as required.
The incumbent will in work in three programs: the Adult Outpatient Clinic, the Crisis Emergency Center, and the Assertive Community Treatment program. The on-call rotation is one weekend every three months.
 
The position may be filled at anytime during the recruitment period and the recruitment will close without further notice.

 Examples of Duties:
1.  Conducts psychiatric examinations
2.  Makes diagnoses and prescribes therapy
3.  Conducts individual and group psychotherapy
4.  Administers and interprets projective tests
5.  Participates in staff conferences recommending appropriate treatment approaches
6.  Assists in developing and organizing a program of clinic treatment
7.  May direct case conferences
8.  May serve as a consultant to other clinic staff
9.  Confers with patient's relatives regarding illness and treatment
10. Assists through consultation in establishing psychiatric programs and policies
11. Cooperates with other public health and hospital personnel
12. Keeps medical records and prepares psychiatric reports
13. Testifies to the Superior Court on matters concerning petitions and affidavits

 Employment Standards:
In order to qualify, you must possess Board Certification in Psychiatry AND
two years of post-residency experience as a psychiatrist in a psychiatric facility.

Additional Qualifications: Possession of a valid license as a physician and surgeon is required. Initial acceptance may be based on licensure as a physician and surgeon in another state; licensure as a physician and surgeon in California is required prior to appointment. Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License may be required.

Knowledge of: general medicine and psychiatry; current developments in the field of psychiatry; and hospital and clinic organization, management, and procedures.

Ability to: skillfully diagnose and treat severely and persistently mentally ill patients; analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action; prepare records and reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and maintain objectivity and confidentiality.

SELECTION PROCESS:

1. Review applications to determine those candidates who meet the employment standards.

All applicants who meet the employment standards will receive a score of 70 percent, and their names will be placed on the employment list. The department will receive all names on the employment list. Those candidates who are successful in the selection process will have their names placed on the employment list for a minimum of three months. At the time the employment list is established, all candidates will receive written notice of their score on the exam(s), rank on the employment list, and exact duration of the employment list.

Other Important Information:

Appointee may be subject to a post-offer medical evaluation or examination. The appointee must satisfactorily complete a probationary period.
