Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Knowledge of: Swimming pool water chemistry and pool equipment. Methods and techniques of water sterilization, chlorination, and PH balancing. Basic carpentry and electrical principles. Basic mathematics. Use of manual and power tools and pool cleaning equipment. Cleansers and chemicals used in pool maintenance. City and Cal-OSHA safe work practices and procedures including proper handling of pool chemicals. Effective customer service techniques. Principles and practices of leading and coordinating the work of others. Ability to: Lead, schedule and train assigned staff. Take accurate measurements. Mix and measure solvents and chemicals. Learn alternative, green cleaning solutions and methods of application. Make simple repairs to pool equipment. Perform simple mathematical calculations. Read charts, blue prints and gauges. Perform physical labor for sustained periods. Safely and properly operate pool equipment. Follow oral and written instructions. Perform basic mechanical and carpentry tasks. Monitor and coordinate the work activities of assigned staff. Provide effective customer service. Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with City employees and the public. Skill in: Reading, writing, and communicating in English at an appropriate level. Dealing effectively with the public and other City employees. Education, Training and Experience High school graduation or the equivalent. Two years of recent, paid work experience performing custodial duties which has included the use of related power cleaning equipment, and/or two years of recent, paid work experience in the operation, maintenance, cleaning, and servicing of swimming pools. Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid Class C driver license. Must obtain a Swimming Pool Service Technician Certificate as required by the County of Los Angeles Health Department within six months from date of hire. |
