  • You will perform respiratory care, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and clinical evaluations of care. 
  • Establish therapeutic objectives and review care based on the needs of patients. Respiratory Therapists are competent to independently perform the full range of chronic and acute care assessments and procedures in an acute care, outpatient clinical or long term care setting. 
  • You will provide lead direction to professional staff providing respiratory care.

 Qualifications:

Licensure/Certification:

  • Possession of either a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registry-Eligible/Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
     
  • Credential. Possession of a valid California Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.  Possession of a Registered Respiratory Therapist certificate (RRT).
Education and Experience:  Any combination of education and experience that would provide applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is one year of journey level experience providing a full range of respiratory care procedures in chronic, acute, critical and life threatening settings. Graduation from an accredited program in Respiratory Care is required in California.

Knowledge of:
  • Emergency medical care
  • Principles, operation, and maintenance of respiratory care equipment
  • Current standards for Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Respiratory pharmacology
  • Standards and practices regarding patient medical record documentation
  • Working knowledge of EKGs, PFTs, ABG sampling, point-of-care analysis and acid-based
  • Hemodynamics, electrolytes, and nutritional requirements as they impact cardiopulmonary care.
  • Organizational and shift supervisor leadership philosophies and practices
  • Basic supervisory principles and their application
  • Customer service and interpersonal communications principles.

Skill/Ability:

  • Provide protocol-driven care

  • Prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously, determining an appropriate course of action both technically and as a resource for other staff
  • Anticipate and delegate responsibilities during fluctuating and/or peak workloads in providing care
  • Prioritize and determine an appropriate course of action based on a given set of circumstances. Theory, practices, and procedures in respiratory care
  • Perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Depending on the number of applicants an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or a screening committee may select those applicants whose education and/or experience appear to best meet the needs of the position. All examinations will be given in San Mateo County, California and applicants must participate at their own expense.
