San Mateo Medical Center is a system of health care including a hospital and regionally located affiliated clinics in San Mateo County. Our mission is to open doors to excellence in healthcare. We provide services primarily for the indigent and low-income families in San Mateo County. Outpatient clinics are located in Daly City, South San Francisco, San Mateo, Redwood City, Menlo Park, East Palo Alto and Half Moon Bay. Pediatric medical services are provided at all sites on an outpatient basis. There are also a small number of pediatric inpatient beds at our hospital in San Mateo. (There are 7 beds but typically only 0-2 are occupied.) We offer pediatric specialty services in Neurology and Cardiology. In addition, children are served in our Emergency Department at San Mateo Medical Center. On-call Coverage There are pediatricians who are on call for the San Mateo Medical Center on weeknights from 5PM until 8AM and 24 hours shifts on the weekends and holidays. Call is taken from home. Many issues can be handled by phone. Some require coming into the Medical Center which is located in San Mateo on 39th Avenue. Compensation is based on a fixed hourly on-call rate plus additional payment for services rendered (Benefits not included). Malpractice insurance is provided for work done at county facilities. Outpatient Clinic Coverage We are often in need of short and longer-term coverage in the clinics when our regular providers take vacations, sick leaves, and maternity leaves. Our clinics provide comprehensive primary medical care in community based settings which are culturally sensitive to the needs our families and easily accessible. Compensation is calculated on an hourly rate and does not include benefits. Malpractice insurance is provided for work done at county facilities.
Examples Of Duties:
Pediatric Consultation to ED physicians. Admissions to San Mateo Medical Center. Arranging transport to another facility if a higher level of care is required. Child physical and sexual abuse examinations (training is provided and trained sexual assault nurses assist all child sexual abuse exams). Evening coverage of the pediatric inpatient beds (if occupied) Follow-up on after hour labs. Weekend hospital visits on pediatric inpatients.

Board eligible/Board certified Pediatricians Preferred: Spanish Language skills
