San Mateo Medical Center seeks experienced operating room RN for our brand new, state-of-the art Surgical Department. Under supervision, You will perform specialized professional nursing duties in assisting surgeons in the operating room. You will act as scrub and circulate nurse, help set up operating room according to type of operation. In addition, you will assist the surgeon during operative procedures and help transfer patients from operating room to recovery room and perform related duties as required. You will follow and carry out established hospital and operating room procedures to achieving some economies and/or preventing losses, through the proper handling and use of instruments, supplies and equipment. You will make regular contacts with surgeons, physicians, nurses and subordinate personnel in carrying out specialized duties. Nature of work requires sustained physical effort, including considerable standing and walking, considerable adeptness in the use of fingers and hands when assisting surgeons. You will face exposure to some accident and injury hazards with intermittent exposure to several disagreeable elements inherent in operating room procedures!

 Examples Of Duties:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Establish and implement nursing care plans for each patient through assessment, development, activation and evaluation.
  • Organize, assign and supervise duties and responsibilities of other staff members as a team leader.
  • Perform nursing care following prescribed rules, policies, protocol and procedures.
  • Identify problems, assist in data gathering, propose solutions and participate in evaluation of quality assurance issues.
  • Work with patient and their families to provide in-hospital and after-hospital follow-up through teaching and referral.
  • Orient and teach new staff members of the nursing team and students.
  • Participate in educational programs to maintain level of expertise.
  • Participate in non-clinical assignments which may include maintaining records, preparing reports and/or serving on special committees.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:
Note: The level and scope of the knowledge and skills listed below are related to job duties as defined under Distinguishing Characteristics.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Staff Nurse Trainee: Possession of a California interim registered nursing permit.
  • Staff Nurse: Possession of a California license as a Registered Nurse or equivalent.

Knowledge of:

  • Nurse Practice Act.
  • Current nursing and related medical theory and skills necessary to administer nursing care within assigned clinical setting.
  • Safety and infection control practices.
  • Clinical systems, supplies and equipment.
Skill/Ability to:
  • Perform nursing procedures required for assigned clinical setting.
  • Comply with clinical procedures and policies.
  • Maintain professional nurse-patient relationships.
  • Work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Follow safety practices.
  • Assist in the instruction of other nursing and paraprofessional personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records and preparing reports.
