| Under direction, performs complex work involved in the analysis, planning, design, implementation and maintenance of the County's 800 MHz radio system; performs related duties as required. | ||
| Distinguishing Characteristics: | ||
| Incumbents in this series are assigned to the 800 Megahertz System Administration and Management Unit (SAMU) of the Information Services Department, and are characterized by on going complex system analysis, planning and programming, centrally and in the field. Positions report to a Supervising 800 Megahertz Analyst. | ||
| Examples of Duties: | ||
| Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Programs and re programs all mobile and portable radios, consoles and controllers used in the system and updates all databases as appropriate. 2. Programs and modifies various database parameters and algorithms which determine the system's capabilities and performance levels, and the capabilities of each individual radio in the field. 3. Fault isolates and analyzes complex system failures and performance degradation and effects or advises on system recovery/restoration/repair, either remotely or in the field. 4. Initiates, reviews and analyzes complex system performance and reliability measurements and reports, and develops and implements cost effective recommendations to improve service delivery and system reliability and efficiency through hardware and software changes. 5. Studies system failures and alarm patterns and determines methods for averting patterned outages. 6. Plans strategic and tactical disaster recovery survival scenarios based on different threat levels. 7. Develops and controls security mechanisms to ensure against unauthorized access to the system software and databases. 8. Backs up all appropriate software and databases to ensure recoverability of systems. 9. Advises and assists appropriate ISD groups relative to 800 MHz System planning, engineering, repair, and maintenance. 10. Maintains records and prepares and submits reports and correspondence as required by immediate supervisor. 11. Provides vacation and temporary relief as required. ems: 04-08-91 rev.: nrp/11-01-96 |

| Minimum Requirements: | ||
| Experience: Two years experience implementing and maintaining a Trunked Radio System and a wireless data system for a public safety, government or military agency, including at least one year of experience analyzing, planning and designing a Trunked Radio System. Experience with Motorola systems is highly desirable. - AND - Education: Thirty semester (45 quarter) units of completed technical coursework or training in electronics or communication technology or related field. 11/10/08 |
