| Under direction, performs field survey work and supervises the activities of a field survey party; prepares and reviews survey party notes; performs office work related to surveying; performs related duties as required. | ||
| Distinguishing Characteristics: | ||
| Positions in this class are characterized by the responsibility for planning, interpreting and carrying out required field surveys using proper technical surveying methods and procedures. Methods of performing tasks are usually left to the judgment of the incumbent, with a Land Surveyor providing occasional instructions and advice. This class is distinguished from positions in the Engineering Technician series by the former's responsibility for the content of survey field notes and by their continual overall supervision of a field survey party crew, as opposed to providing temporary relief. This class is further distinguished from the next higher class of Land Surveyor in that the latter is responsible for supervising a section engaged in difficult legal and other problems related to survey functions. |
