Under general supervision, performs skilled work in a variety of fields in the maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, equipment and related facilities; supervises and directs the work of trusties; performs related duties as required.

 Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is the journey level of the series. This class is characterized by the responsibility for performing the full range of skilled maintenance and repair work at a County custodial facility. Positions report to a Maintenance Supervisor.

 Examples of Duties:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Maintains, rebuilds and repairs pneumatic, electric and manual security locking systems.

2. Maintains, services and repairs facility's plumbing and sanitation system, including pneumatic and electronic plumbing control systems.

3. Maintains, services, and repairs facility's heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including control systems.

4. Maintains and services equipment and appliances, including commercial dishwashers, cooking and laundry equipment,

5. Maintains, services, and repairs emergency electrical generator equipment and electrical systems, including lighting.

6. Performs a wide variety of physical plant maintenance, repairs, additions, and upgrades to structures and equipment, including floors, walls, ceilings, roofs, fencing, and grounds.

7. Performs welding, steel, and stainless steel fabricating; performs carpentry work as necessary; maintains boilers as necessary.

8. Supervises and coordinates the work of trusties.

9. Maintains records and prepares reports.

10. Provides vacation and temporary relief as required.

 Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
Four years of journey-level experience in large commercial, large industrial or large institutional facility maintenance, in one or more of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning.
NOTE: Residential or light commercial new construction experience is NOT qualifying.
