Under general direction, coordinates all audio visual activities and functions of a department; advises professional and technical staff on effective utilization of audio visual devices; plans and produces audio visual training aids; performs related work as required.

 Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class is characterized by responsibility for all audio visual activities and functions of a department, including assigning and coordinating the work of professional and technical personnel and writing scripts.

Multi Media Coordinator is distinguished from Audio Visual Technician in that the former is responsible for writing, directing and producing multi media aids while the latter is involved in taping counseling and training sessions and the maintenance of audio visual materials.

 Examples of Duties:
1. Writes, directs and produces multi media aids such as films, audio tapes, video tapes and photographs for use in training; determines camera and microphone location for shots.

2. Operates and directs the operation of cameras and microphones; executes or supervises editing and dubbing of films and tapes.

3. Plans and writes scripts for training and informational programs. Writes and coordinates the preparation of handout material and examinations designed to accompany multi media programs.

4. Plans, assigns, and coordinates a unit of professional and technical employees and/or volunteers engaged in multi media operations.

5. Advises a professional training staff in determining most effective types of audio visual aids to use for specific subjects and audiences.

6. Determines resources necessary for multi media productions and how they may be obtained; contacts individuals to ascertain availability of material supplies and equipment as necessary.

7. Designs and maintains an audio visual library system; requisitions, issues, catalogues, controls, and stores audio visual materials and equipment; evaluates and recommends purchase of new equipment.

8. Films and directs filming on location; may film at crime scenes, during criminal investigations, and during court testimonies.

9. Maintains audio, video and photographic equipment assigned to the department, ensuring that repairs and maintenance are done on a timely basis.

10. Prepares budget requests estimates of production expenses and justification for materials, supplies, and equipment necessary for multi media productions.

11. Prepares necessary reports and correspondence; maintains accurate records of expenditures and fund transfers.

12. Provides vacation and temporary relief as required.

 Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college level coursework in television or film production, multimedia or educational media, communication arts or other closely related audio visual studies. OR a bachelor's degree in a qualifying field. A bachelor's degree in communication arts (as listed) may substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
AND
Experience:

Three (3) years of experience with video or film production editing, or AV support services.
