Under general direction, supervises the operation and staff of a clinic which provides a variety of mental health services to the community; performs related duties as required.

 Distinguishing Characteristics:
Positions in this class are characterized by full clinical supervisory responsibility for a staff of therapists and clerical and technical positions, and administrative responsibility to direct the daily operation of a treatment clinic.

This class is distinguished from the class of Mental Health Program Manager I by the latter's administrative supervision over Mental Health Clinic Supervisor(s) and responsibility to negotiate with and monitor contract agencies.

 Examples of Duties:
1. Supervise Clinical Therapists and other support staff; plan and coordinate the work of the clinic staff; evaluate work and prepare and sign performance evaluations; participate in hiring and disciplinary actions; determine training needs and conduct inservice training.

2. Act as a resource for therapists on the treatment of specific cases or types of cases; review treatment plans and therapeutic techniques utilized. Ensure that therapists provide treatment within the scope of licensure.

3. Supervise a clinic operation which entails responsibility for safety and security of staff, reporting maintenance and repair needs, preparing budget requests for equipment and supplies, and controlling expenditures.

4. Generate revenue by maintaining productivity, auditing charts and enforcing regulations; review audit exceptions and ensure corrective action is taken.

5. Make recommendations regarding the need for new or revised procedures; ensure the implementation of policy, procedure or clinical changes.

6. Represent the department at meetings and serve as liaison to the community; may make presentations to community groups as required to explain programs and promote acceptance and support.

7. Perform research and studies as needed; prepare grant proposals, and other reports, records and correspondence.

8. Develop contracts for treatment services and monitor for compliance to financial terms and agreements.

9. Provide comprehensive psychotherapeutic treatment services for the most severely disturbed clients, performing diagnostic evaluations, developing and implementing treatment plans, and conducting therapy, within the scope of the license.

10. Provide vacation and temporary relief as required.

Must be licensed in the State of California as one of the following: Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Psychologist (LP). Failure to maintain a licensure will result in termination.

 Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
Three (3) years of post-license experience as a licensed therapist in a behavioral health or social services facility, which includes one year as a lead worker or full supervisor. Clearly distinguish between the dates of pre-licensed and licensed experience.
