| Under direction, supervises a section of Child Support Officers and support staff in locating absent parents, conducting interviews and establishing and monitoring child support payments; performs the duties of a Child Support Officer on more difficult cases; and performs related duties as required. | ||
| Distinguishing Characteristics: | ||
| This class is distinguished from Child Support Officer by the responsibility for supervising a group of Child Support Officers, and support staff assigned to a section in the Child Support Division of the District Attorney's Office. Incumbents are primarily responsible for reviewing and coordinating the work of subordinates, but they may also handle more difficult individual child support cases. This class is further distinguished from Child Support Branch Supervisor in that the latter administers and directs the daily operations of a branch office through subordinate Supervising Child Support Officers. |

| Examples of Duties: | ||
| Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Assigns and reviews the work of a staff of Child Support Officers and clerical staff; develops training plan for new employees; evaluates staff work performance. 2. Reviews child support case files to insure information is complete and that they are being updated on a regular basis; explains any additional information requirements to Child Support Officers. 3. Performs the work of a Child Support Officer on more difficult cases; interviews complainant, establishes payment orders, files contempt or complaint petitions, evaluates payment performance and negotiates stipulated judgments with attorneys. 4. Reviews the filing of complaints, contempts and orders; determines if the recommended legal action is the most appropriate for a particular case; refers case to District Attorney for prosecution or back to Child Support Officer for additional information. 5. Assists attorneys in researching and preparing difficult cases and preparing court calendars; researches child support laws and develops procedures as requested. 6. | Education: Associate's degree or equivalent completed college coursework in social/behavioral science, public/business administration, and administration of justice, English, math or humanities. -AND- Experience: Three (3) years of Child Support Officer experience in a California Department of Child Support Services. 8/4/08 |
