Under direction, trains Sheriff Dispatch personnel and operates state of the art radio and communication equipment in order to dispatch emergency public safety vehicles to incidents involving the public peace and safety; performs related duties as required.

 Distinguishing Characteristics:
Positions in the Sheriff's Communication Dispatcher III class are characterized by responsibility to serve as lead workers over other Sheriff’s Communications Dispatcher I’s and II’s, and provide on-the-job training. Incumbents in this class may act as shift supervisor in the absence of the assigned supervisor, while performing a full range of training, telecommunications and dispatch duties. Tasks are performed with little supervision and new or highly unusual situations may be referred to the supervisor. This class is distinguished from Supervising Sheriff's Communication Dispatcher in that the latter has full supervisory responsibility for Sheriff’s Dispatch personnel on an assigned shift. It is further distinguished from the Sheriff’s Communications Dispatcher II in that the Sheriff’s Communications Dispatcher III serves in a lead capacity over dispatchers and is responsible for their initial and ongoing training.

1. Serves as trainer and provides on-the-job training, instruction, and assistance to Sheriff’s Communications staff in the use of all communications equipment, radios, Computer Aided Dispatch systems, policies and procedures.

2. Functions as lead worker and participates in the selection of new dispatchers, assigns and reviews work, provides input on work performance evaluations, and recommends disciplinary action.

6. May receive complaints from the public or department members and recommend appropriate action.
