| This is the entry level; incumbents do the less complex work or work under close supervision while installing, maintaining and repairing various electronic equipment other than radio equipment which requires an FCC license. | ||
| Examples of Duties: | ||
| Depending on assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Installs, maintains, and repairs:
3. Checks, makes minor repairs on, and operates various electronic test instruments such as voltmeters, oscillators, oscilloscopes, and power meters. 4. Completes records of work performed and time spent. 5. Climbs ladders and works in confined spaces. Drives a truck or van, loads and unloads equipment and instruments. 6. Helps train other employees; may supervise an installation project on site. 7. Provides vacation and temporary relief as required. 8. Telephone: Uses computer to diagnose problems, program telephones or signaling channels, or repair interswitch ties. Installs or reconfigures cards in switch cabinets, following Telecommunications Engineer's instructions; builds power supply. Determines type of equipment to be used on new installations. Assigns cable pairs, terminals and terminal numbers using facility software and switch data base; updates data base from completed work orders; verifies facility assignments at request of field technicians. 9. Data/Electronics: Draws and/or interprets schematic diagrams for the purpose of troubleshooting, modification and repair of electronic equipment. Builds circuit boards, consoles, panels for special needs. Discusses needs of customers on new installations; designs cabling layouts. 10. Microwave: Performs periodic tests on microwave radio equipment in compliance with FCC rules and regulations. Climbs poles, antenna structures, and towers to install, inspect and maintain equipment as required by assignment. May be required to reach sites by snow cat, snow shoes, skis, or being lowered from a helicopter. 11. Radio: Performs periodic tests on radio equipment in accordance with FCC rules. Supervises and inspects the installation of radios in vehicles; diagnoses customer complaints, writes and prioritizes work orders; maintains adequate supply of parts and materials in the installation area. Climbs poles, structures, and towers to install and maintain equipment as required by assignment. May be required to reach sites by snow cat, snow shoes, skis, or being lowered from a helicopter. | Minimum Requirements: | ||
| Education: Fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed college or post-high school technical coursework in electronics or communication technology. Experience: One (1) year of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing microwave, circuits, radio, and telephone or data transmission systems. Substitution: An additional twelve (12) months of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education. 2/19/08 |
