| Distinguishing Characteristics: | ||
| This is the journey level; incumbents in this class are characterized by their responsibility to install and perform minor maintenance on cables, connectors, jacks, terminating equipment, main and intermediate distribution frames, building security devices, and various telephone, radio and electronic equipment. Incumbents in this class are not required to perform maintenance or repairs that require an FCC license. This class is distinguished from the Communications Technician series by the latter's responsibility to determine the nature of a problem and perform electronic equipment repairs. | ||
| Examples of Duties: | ||
| Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Installs telephone equipment including jacks, conduit and switches; checks continuity of lines and verifies operation. 2. Installs data, audio and video cabling, connectors and terminating jacks in county offices. Installs inter com and paging systems. 3. Installs main and intermediate distribution frames. 4. Installs and removes mobile 2 way radio equipment, cables, control heads, microphones, speakers, Mobile Data Terminals, sirens and light bars from vehicles and returns all electrical connections to normal operations. 5. Installs and removes fixed station batteries and seismic racks. 6. Maintains and performs minor repairs on various electronic equipment; refers non routine problems to Communications Technicians. 7. Operates electronic testing equipment such as voltmeter, multimeter, and ampmeter to check for output wattage, reflective power, and shorts in radio antennas. 8. Assists in the installation and removal of equipment from fixed microwave stations which includes climbing ladders or microwave towers. 9. Maintains records of equipment installed and removed; schedules installation work to be performed. 10. Performs vacation and temporary relief as required. rd/08-12-85 rev: ap/03-04-08 |

| Minimum Requirements: | ||
| Education: Fifteen semester (23 quarter) units of completed college or post-high school technical coursework in electronics or telecommunications technology. Experience: One year of experience installing, maintaining and repairing electronic or telecommunications equipment. Substitution: An additional year of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education. 3/22/07 |
