| Positions in this series determine the responsibility for payments, the amount of payment, and compliance with payment orders on cases brought to the Child Support Services Department. Positions perform related duties as required. | ||
| Distinguishing Characteristics: | ||
| This is the fully qualified working level in the series. Incumbents work under general supervision and are expected to be knowledgeable in all phases of Child Support work. Positions typically report to a Supervising Child Support Officer. |

| Examples of Duties: | ||
| Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Conduct interviews with complainants, defendants, and witnesses to elicit information to establish paternity, failure to provide, verify addresses, employment and financial circumstances. 2. Evaluate non-custodial parent’s financial resources and determines responsibility and amount of payments especially in cases where independent decision-making is required; attempt to obtain stipulated judgment for child support payments consistent with financial evaluations; determine action to be taken and refers to appropriate section. 3. Negotiate with attorneys and defendants to establish amount of child support and settlement of arrearages. 4. Regularly review and monitor support cases to update information and ensure payments are made as ordered. 5. Initiate legal action to obtain court ordered support, enforcement of court orders, or establish paternity. 6. Initiate correspondence to clients, attorneys, state and local agencies; initiate reciprocal action with other jurisdictions. 7. May be required to testify in court, take trial notes and assist Attorneys during court proceedings. 8. | Minimum Requirements: | ||
| Education: Thirty semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in social/behavioral science, public/business administration, administration of justice, English, math or humanities OR A bachelor's degree or higher in the qualifying fields of study. Experience: One year of Child Support Officer experience is required. Substitution: Additional experience as a Child Support Officer may substitute for the required education on the basis of six months experience for 15 semester (23 quarter) units of the required coursework. 3/12/07 |
