As a member of the Information Services project team, this position is responsible for creating web services and interfaces into applications and disparate databases for use in the Integrated Justice Information System (IJIS). IJIS allows various agencies within the criminal justice system to share information. Two core functions of IJIS is real-time transfer of shared data and interactive access to data stored on remote systems.

This position works closely with the IJIS program steering committee, as well as the Salt Lake County Criminal Justice organizations and outside agencies. Assists with system designs; reviews and provides significant input on IJIS related technical designs; participates in strategic technical architecture planning; assists with project planning and tracking, especially during iteration planning.  Writes and estimates user stories and establishes completion criteria; selects, estimates, and implements tasks. Writes technical and user documentation. Responsible for implementing designs using test driven design and refactoring methodologies. 

 Important Information:

Starting salary above the minimum of the range is dependent upon qualifications and approval from the Salt Lake County Mayor’s Office. 

Salt Lake County is investing in an Integrated Justice Information System (IJIS) that will help in the effort to share criminal justice information between agencies through web services and an ESB and provide appropriate decision support information to help with the funding decision making process for the criminal justice community.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check.

The successful applicant must be able to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally, follow written and verbal instructions, meet and deal with customers effectively, perform effectively under stress and work and carry out projects without constant supervision.


Knowledge of advance systems design with an emphasis in agile design and development methodologies is preferred.

Knowledge of SOA and ESB, as well as web services and knowledge of the Utah Justice environment is also preferred.


Computer programming languages such as Shell Scripting, SQL, JAVA, J2EE, XML, JSP, ColdFusion, and JAVAScript,  programming tools such as RAD/Eclipse, application server concepts, hardware configuration and capabilities, database management theory and design principles are beneficial.

 Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in computer science or other closely related field, plus six (6) years of experience in advanced writing, programming and analysis tasks utilizing multiple platforms, languages, and disparate databases, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience in advanced writing,  programming and analysis tasks utilizing multiple platforms, languages, and disparate databases.
