Under supervision, the Election Assistant uses a computer terminal to enter voter registration, absentee voter or precinct officer/polling place data into the department’s computer files. Incumbents also respond to routine questions from candidates, representatives of candidates, office holders, voters and the general public about campaign requirements, voting regulations, and general information about elections. Incumbents in this class may also serve as lead workers over small groups (1-15) of temporary Election Clerks during peak workload periods for short periods of time.

  • Disassemble, inspect, repair and reassemble voting equipment

Essential Physical Abilities
  1. Some positions may be required to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  2. Most positions are required to use a personal computer. Although there is no typing speed requirement, appointees should be familiar with and be able to use a typewriter or a computer keyboard

 Employment Standards:

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of experience and education or training that is likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Six months of paid or volunteer experience in the State of California working in conducting local or statewide elections or in the registration of voters. Note: The word “experience” referenced in the minimum qualifications means full-time paid experience unless the job announcement states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements. Note: If the minimum qualifications include an educational requirement, applicants must submit proof of education with the application. Failure to submit proof of educational requirements may result in disqualification from the examination. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable. License Requirement: Some positions in this class require a California Driver’s license Class C, or higher. Failure to maintain the appropriate driver’s license may constitute cause for disciplinary action. The probationary period for this classification is twelve(12) months.

Testing Process Minimum Qualifications – To be accepted into the testing process, the information submitted on the application must clearly demonstrate that the applicant meets the required minimum qualifications by the cut-off date. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications by the final filing date will advance to the next testing phase – the Training & Experience Evaluation Exam. Formula Rate (Training & Experience Evaluation) Exam – The evaluation of the candidate’s relevant experience, education and training, as shown in response to the Training & Experience Evaluation supplemental questions, weighted 100%. Only the responses to the Training & Experience Evaluation supplemental questions in this job announcement will be evaluated. All candidates successful in the testing process will be notified by mail of their score and ranking and placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the evaluation of the candidate’s responses to the Training & Experience Evaluation supplemental questionnaire. Note: Responses to the Training & Experience Evaluation supplemental questionnaire must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on the cut-off date in order to be evaluated. Note: The information provided should be consistent with the information in your standard County of Sacramento application and is subject to verification.
