The testing process for the Information Technology Analyst has changed. You will now submit your responses to the supplemental questions electronically at the same time you submit your County application. Additionally, the 5 different options (Network Management, Operating Systems, Database Management, Programming, and Business Requirements) will all be tested under one set of supplemental questions. You may choose 1 or more of the 5 options to respond to, and you will receive an overall score based on all the questions you respond to.

This is a continuous filing exam. The filing cut-offs are at 5:00pm every second Friday.

Salary Information:
Level I: $5,131.25 to $6,237.92 Monthly
Level II: $5,700.25 to $6,930.42 Monthly


This is a single classification with two (2) salary levels. Level 1 is the level at which initial appointments to Information Technology Analyst are typically made; and advancement from the lower to the higher level of the class is at the discretion of the appointing authority, providing the minimum qualifications are met.

Information Technology Analyst (Level I) is the entry journey level. Under close supervision, incumbents perform a variety of technical operational duties. As experience and knowledge are acquired, incumbents are expected to perform increasingly responsible and difficult assignments.

Information Technology Analyst (Level II) is the full working journey/lead worker level in the class, technically proficient in performing their assigned duties at a high level of independence under minimal supervision. Incumbents may train, assign, and monitor work of Information Technology Analysts (Level I) and Information Technology Analyst Trainees.

Incumbents in the Information Technology Analyst series classes perform a variety of professional, technical and analytical duties in the operation of enterprise, client/server and desktop computer systems and networks. The duties include work in the areas of user and systems requirements and analysis, applications development and maintenance, computer systems support, network design and maintenance and data/database analysis/administration.

 Employment Standards:

Minimum Qualifications:

Either: 1. A Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, information systems or a closely related field.

And: One year experience in the option tested, in the field of systems engineering, programming, database administration and/or analysis, operating systems, network analysis and/or management or a similar field in a multi-platform information systems environment.

Or: 2. One year experience in the class of Information Technology Analyst Trainee.

Or: 3. One year experience in a position performing the equivalent full-time duties of an Information Technology Analyst Trainee. See notes 3 and 4.

Or: 4. Completion of a certificate program in computer science in the option tested. The certificate must be an approved computer science certification, maintained on the list by the Sacramento County Office of Communication and Information Technology. See note 5.

And: Three years experience in the field of the option test.

Notes:

  1. Failure to submit proof of educational requirements will result in disqualification from the examination.

  2. Additional relevant full-time experience for classes in this series may substitute for the Bachelor’s Degree on a year-for-year basis. For example, 2 years of qualifying experience (in addition to the experience already required) AND an Associate of Arts degree in computer science, information systems or a closely related field may substitute for the Bachelor’s Degree.

  3. The objective of the minimum qualifications is to determine training and experience that enables an appointee to perform the full range of technical analytical duties in the requested class and level with only minimal orientation to the specific job assignment in the class. Such experience must demonstrate the stated Knowledge and Abilities under the heading All Options as well as those under the specific option applied for; duties shall be performed at the appropriate level of the class stated in the minimum qualifications and be consistent with Distinguishing Characteristics for that class. Education in the form of a Bachelor’s or higher degree, completion of major college coursework or an approved certificate program in the fields of programming, database, operating systems, networking, project management or systems analysis that demonstrates knowledge and abilities at the level in the option tested may supplement experience as stated in note 3.

  4. Experience, education, and training will demonstrate that the minimum qualifications for each lower level of the class series are met. For example, for the Information Technology Analyst qualifications would demonstrate that the applicant has performed duties equivalent to one year experience in a position performing the equivalent full-time duties of an Information Technology Analyst and one year experience in a position performing the equivalent full-time duties of an Information Technology Analyst Trainee and two years experience performing the equivalent full-time duties of an information Technology Technician in Sacramento County Service and one year experience performing the equivalent full-time duties of an Information Technology Technician Trainee.

  5. Evaluation of degrees, training and certificates includes verification of accreditation of institution and applicability content to prevailing industry standards and current county needs which are subject to change in existing technology requirements.


Special Requirements:
Criminal History and Background Check: Some candidates may need to pass a security clearance investigation conducted by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department or may be required to be fingerprinted for purposes of search of local and state fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record.

Hours of Work: Incumbents may be required to work irregular hours and on-call.

Probationary Period: The probationary period for this classification is twelve (12) months

Testing Process

Minimum Qualifications – To be accepted into the testing process, the information submitted on the application must clearly demonstrate that the applicant meets the required minimum qualifications by the cut-off date. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications by the final filing date will advance to the next testing phase – the Training & Experience Evaluation Exam.

Formula Rate (Training & Experience Evaluation) Exam – The evaluation of the candidate’s relevant experience, education and training, as shown in response to the Training & Experience Evaluation supplemental questions, weighted 100%. Only the responses to the Training & Experience Evaluation supplemental questions in this job announcement will be evaluated. All candidates successful in the testing process will be notified by mail of their score and ranking and placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the evaluation of the candidate’s responses to the Training & Experience Evaluation supplemental questionnaire.

Note: Responses to the Training & Experience Evaluation supplemental questionnaire must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on the cut-off date in order to be evaluated.
