Salary Information:
Level I: $3,029.33 to $3,681.83 monthly
Level II: $3,224.25 to $3,918.5 monthly

Plans, directs, manages, supervises and performs a variety of tasks involving case establishment, collections, and distribution of family and child support within the Department of Child Support Services. |

Employment Standards:

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of experience and education or training that is likely to provide the required knowledges and abilities for this class. Typical ways to obtain the knowledges and abilities include:
LEVEL II: One year of experience in Sacramento County service in (Level I) of Child Support Officer, as a Revenue Collection Specialist Trainee, Eligibility Worker, or in any class performing comparable duties.
Or: One year of investigative experience using various search procedures, including skip tracing techniques, in locating, observing, and interviewing individuals, and preparing reports of findings.
LEVEL I: One year of clerical experience in the Sacramento County office of child support with duties involving case intervention and/or in the public service unit.
Or: One year of billing or collection work, including interviewing debtors with a company or agency not using a collection agency.
Or: Completion of 60 semester units from an accredited college or university. (Note: Copy of transcripts or diploma must be submitted.)
Note: The word “experience” referenced in the minimum qualifications means full-time paid experience unless the job announcement states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.
Note: If the minimum qualifications include an educational requirement, applicants must submit proof of education with the application. Failure to submit proof of educational requirements may result in disqualification from the examination. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
General Qualifications
Driver’s License: A valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher will be required prior to appointment. Failure to maintain the appropriate driver’s license may constitute cause for disciplinary action.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Some positions in the class of Child Support Officer may require the ability to communicate fluently in a language other than English. When required, these special skills may be used in performing such tasks as the following:
1. Interviews and negotiates financial agreements with non-custodial parents to enforce court-ordered support obligations.
2. Locates absent parents, investigates parents’ assets and income, and notifies parents of intended legal action.
The Civil Service Commission approved the use of selective certification for special skills 6/22/90.
Probationary Period:
The probationary period for this classification is twelve (12) months. |

Testing Process
To be accepted into the testing process, the information submitted on the application must clearly demonstrate that the applicant meets the required minimum qualifications by the cut-off date. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications by the final filing date will advance to the next testing phase – the written exam.
The testing process will consist of a written examination, weighted 100%. The examination may test for, but is not limited to, the essential knowledge and abilities listed in this job announcement. All candidates successful in the testing process will be notified of their score and ranking based on their notification preference and placed on the eligible list in rank order determined by the test score attained.
Qualified applicants will be notified of the exact date, time, and location of the examination, based on their notification preference, approximately two (2) weeks before the tentatively scheduled date listed at the beginning of the announcement. If applicants have not received written notice at least two (2) working days prior to the tentative test date, they should contact the County of Sacramento Employment Office at (916) 874-5593.
