Salary Information:
Level I: $3,243.36 to $3,942.83 monthly
Level II: $3,453.92 to $4,196.88 monthly


Plans, directs, manages, supervises and performs a variety of tasks involving case establishment, collections, and distribution of family and child support within the Department of Child Support Services.

 Employment Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of experience and education or training that is likely to provide the required knowledges and abilities for this class. Typical ways to obtain the knowledges and abilities include:

LEVEL II: One year of experience in Sacramento County service in (Level I) of Child Support Officer, as a Revenue Collection Specialist Trainee, Eligibility Worker, or in any class performing comparable duties.

Or: One year of investigative experience using various search procedures, including skip tracing techniques, in locating, observing, and interviewing individuals, and preparing reports of findings.

LEVEL I: One year of clerical experience in the Sacramento County office of child support with duties involving case intervention and/or in the public service unit.

Or: One year of billing or collection work, including interviewing debtors with a company or agency not using a collection agency.

Or: Completion of 60 semester units from an accredited college or university. (Note: Copy of transcripts or diploma must be submitted.)

Note: The word "experience" referenced in the minimum qualifications means full-time paid experience unless the job announcement states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.

General Qualifications

Driver's License: A valid California driver's license, Class C or higher will be required prior to appointment. Failure to maintain the appropriate driver's license may constitute cause for disciplinary action.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Some positions in the class of Child Support Officer may require the ability to communicate fluently in a language other than English. When required, these special skills may be used in performing such tasks as the following:

1. Interviews and negotiates financial agreements with non-custodial parents to enforce court-ordered support obligations.
2. Locates absent parents, investigates parents' assets and income, and notifies parents of intended legal action.

The Civil Service Commission approved the use of selective certification for special skills 6/22/90.

Probationary Period:

The probationary period for this classification is twelve (12) months.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION (Weighted 100%)

All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications by the cut off date will be invited to the written examination. This examination may test for, but is not limited to, the essential knowledge and abilities listed in this job announcement. Qualified applicants will be notified of the exact date, time, and location of the examination, which is tentatively scheduled for week of March 30, 2015 and week of September 28, 2015 based on their notification preference. All candidates competing in the testing process will receive written notice of their examination results either by email or mail based on their notification preference. Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the examination.
