Transfer Opportunities for Tuesday, February 09, 2010

NOTE - Transfer vacancies are posted for information for career city employees only. A transfer denotes movement from one position to another and shall not be interpreted as a promotion.

Information regarding Transfers:

» Please note: To meet the first qualification to transfer, the difference in salary between Step E/10 of the higher classification and Step E/10 of the employee's current classification cannot exceed 5% [Civil Service Board Rule 8.3 (a)(1)(aa)]. See example below.

According to Civil Service Board Rule 8.3 (a)(1), if an employee transfers to a higher classification, he/she will maintain the salary of the previous classification. The employee shall retain the previous classification anniversary date for subsequent salary increases. If the employee has no anniversary date since he/she is already at Step E/10, the new anniversary date will be 52 weeks from the effective date of the transfer.

According to Civil Service Board Rule 8.3 (c)(2), if an employee transfers to a lower classification, he/she will be placed in the lower classification at the closest salary step with no increase in salary. The employee shall retain the previous classification anniversary date for subsequent salary increases. If the employee has no anniversary date since he/she is already at Step E/10, the new anniversary date will be 52 weeks from the effective date of the transfer.

According to Civil Service Rules, transfers are optional. Departments are not mandated to consider transfer applicants, so you MAY NOT hear from the hiring departments.

Employees NOT eligible for transfer include:

· Salary difference more than 5%

· Non-city

· Non-career

· Temporary

· Limited-term

· Exempt

» Example: A current City employee is a Typist Clerk III but wants to transfer to Admin Tech.

$ 4,111.00 = Admin Tech (Step E/10 or maximum step of desired classification)

$ 3,064.19 = TCIII (Step E/10 or maximum step of current classification)

$ 1,046.81

$ 1,046.81 divided by 30.64* = 34.1648 = 34% (*Use TCIII salary & move decimal over two spaces)

With the difference being 34% (not within the required 5%), the TCIII is not eligible to transfer to Admin Tech.
