JOB DESCRIPTION:

Employees perform professional level civil legal research work in support of law & motion and trial calendars while gaining experience in providing support to judicial officers.  In accordance with local policy, employees may serve as Judge Pro Tem, hearing such matters as the law and motion calendar, small claims, truancy, and traffic and code enforcement. Attorneys may also advise the Court on legal aspects of administrative and operational issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

Level I: One year of experience in the practice of civil law which included the performance of legal research duties.

Level II: Three years of experience in the practice of civil law, which included the performance of legal research duties or two years experience in a court of law in the capacity of a research attorney.

Special Requirement: Current membership in the State Bar of California.
 

OTHER INFORMATION:

Physical Demands: Strength, dexterity, coordination and vision to use a keyboard and video display terminal on a daily basis. Hearing to communicate with the public and court staff. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. such as files, stacks of papers, reference and other materials. Moving from place to place within an office; some reaching for items above and below desk level.

Starting salary may vary between steps 1 - 5.  A decision on where to place the successful candidate will be based on their experience.
